Going Bald!
Sammy spent about nine months completely bald and several more looking like a thin haired mad professor. One of the less permanent yet most obvious effects of chemotherapy is hair loss. Now, I'm not talking just about the head...I mean EVERYWHERE! Sam had no eyebrows or eyelashes, not a single hair on his whole body. The bald look is the first announcement to the world that a person has cancer.
St. Baldrick's is a charity which raises money for childhood cancer by asking volunteers to shave their heads in return for donations. As well as raising money, these new 'baldies' also raise awareness of pediatric cancer though their bold action. I am so very proud to say that Brian became a 'baldy" to raise money for the charity.
Please visit Brian's Fundraising Page to learn about the charity and see the before and after pictures.

I'm so glad you brought this one to light. My friend is very involved in this and her husband and children shave their heads and raise money every year. So far I've only donated (money, not hair). But I commend the bravery of those that do go all in. Just like I commend the bravery of all patients.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to hear that the kids get involved too, Shannon. Jack is reluctant and we are not going to force him. Brian looks...well, bald! But he thinks it is something he will do each year from now on. I am proud of him. I decided on the monetary donation too...it would have to be a LOT for me to do it :)

hey there, you posted a response to my question on the ACCOR website ( i asked if anyone else was exhausted physically and mentally) I don't get on there much but thank you for your post and the link to your page I hope to really explore it today...I shaved my head with St. Baldrick's in March, what an emotional day that was! starting too look a little silly now as it is growing out and not quite long enough to lay down flat...but anyway just wanted to say HI and get a bookmark on your page so I can start reading! Hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to do a post about the Light the Night walk and link to Sammy's donation site. Are you ok with that? Don't want to assume anything.
